Also known as Tumba lata or Bato Lata, this outdoor game gets its name from tumba (to fall) and preso (prisoner), meaning “fallen prisoner.” Players take turns trying to knock down a can with a well-aimed throw!

Mechanics

Players must acquire a can and their own slippers. They must create a line where the players must stand and where the can should be placed. Before playing, they must choose the taya or who will be guarding the can. The can should be standing at the center of the circle and players must hit the can with their slipper without passing through the line. Once the can is hit, the taya must retrive the can and can tag a player to make them the next guardian. If the players failed to retrive their slipper, the taya can step on the slipper and the owner of that slipper will be the next taya.

How to Play Tumbang Preso!

Get your own slippers and one can. Set up the game by drawing a line where the players can stand behind and a circle a bit far from it where the can will be placed in the center.

Step 1

Choose the taya who will guard the can.

Step 2

Step 4

Once the can is put back in place, the taya can tag a player before they reach their base making them the new guardian. The taya stepping on a player’s slipper can also make the player become the next taya.

Step 3

Everyone will take turns to knock the can down with their slippers. If the can falls, the taya has to put it back in the circle while the players quickly retrieve their slippers and run back to the base.
